Hosting Harmony Jones at next Island City Art Walk Friday 2/17

Next Friday, February 17th, from 7PM until 10PM, Wilton Manors Main Street throws open its doors to the Island City Art Walk.

The Island City Art Walk is a wonderful chance for you to see the businesses of Wilton Manors with a selection of noted artists of many different traditions, from Painting, to Photography, Sculpture and Mixed Media.

We are happy to participate in this wonderful event, and this month we are going to host noted artist Harmony Jones. Ms. Jones is a local artist who will bring to us her national reputation and her works of note for all to see.

In her own words, she is:

A contemporary mixed-media painter and sculptor, Harmony attended a private art college in Portland, Oregon and began showing professionally in 2003. Harmony has shown her work locally over the past six years in South Florida – from Palm Beach through Fort Lauderdale, and into North Miami and Wynwood Art District. She also has collectors in Los Angeles, Seattle, St. Louis and New York City.

Harmony's work is contextualized largely of acrylics and mixed media, and she often incorporates recycled materials and found objects into her paintings and sculptures. She primarily works out of her home studio in South Florida.

Harmony has completed public commissioned mural projects and her work has been featured in regional arts magazines.

As the Co-Founder of the non-profit, Inside Out Art And Wellness, she shares her passion for creating with individuals and groups of all ages and brings her art education experiences across the region.

Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt Grand Opening

January 24, 2011

(Wilton Manors, FL.) Menchie’s announced today the grand opening of their newest store at Five Points Plaza on January 28, 2011. The ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration begins at 11:00a.m. at 2607 N. Dixie Highway in Wilton Manors. They will give away free t-shirts to the first 50 customers and free 8oz cups of yogurt from 11:00A.M.-1:00P.M.

“Menchie’s is all about being part of a community and we found that here in Wilton Manors,” said Melissa Kushner, owner of Menchie’s Five Points Plaza. “It’s a close-knit, friendly environment for everyone which is why we chose this location”

With 14 rotating flavors (at least one with no sugar and one sorbet option), 26 dry toppings, a cold topping bar and four types of sauces, Menchie’s truly has something for everyone. Each treat is assembled by the customer to make it as delicious and healthy as they (or their Mom) may wish.

“I was able to sample their red velvet yogurt recently, “said Krishan Manners, President of Wilton Manors Main Street, “and really could not believe how delicious it was even without adding any toppings. I look forward to visiting them…often. I guess that may be a self-serving way to welcome them to Wilton Manors, but nothing says ‘welcome’ like another happy customer.”

Menchie’s hours of operation are Sunday-Thursday, 11A.M-11PM, and Friday and Saturday they stay open until midnight.

“Our mission statement is, ‘We make you smile,’” said Kushner, “and we anticipate bringing a lot of smiles to Wilton Manors.”

Noted Photographer Robert Grauer will be Hosted at the next Island City Art Walk

Local Artist Robert Grauer will be with us on Friday January 20th for this month's Island City Art Walk from 7pm until 10pm. We invite you to stop by for a visit and see this local artist's exciting work!

Robert takes his inspiration from nature photography and his exhibits will show some of the reasons why we all feel that South Florida is so special. This particular picture is of Pine Glades Lake in the Everglades, and Robert brings to it his experience to show us why this World Treasure should be protected.

In Robert's own words:

"When the light or the sky are just right, I become one with the environment, no longer merely an observer. Its a spiritual experience for me capturing nature's incredible ever changing beauty. Whether deep in Big Cypress Swamp or on a deserted stretch of beach at sunrise, sharing the beauty of these places through my photography brings me great joy."

Help The Children's Art Project Complete - Buy A Brick

You can help Wilton Manors Main Street complete the Children's Art Project installation. If you would like to purchase an engraved brick to be installed at the plaza, the link is on our web page, http://www.wiltonmanorsmainstreet.org

Wilton Manors Main Street’s Children’s Art Project is to create a mini plaza within the southern tip of Jaycee Park. Three Island Plaza was envisioned to display the past present and future of Wilton Manors in three mosaic tiles sculptures.

The design for the Postcard sculpture is to replicate the original 1925 poster used to sell land in Wilton Manors in a large scale format on a concrete block wall, seven feet long by five and a half feet high. The concrete block will be covered with the tile mosaic.

The Benches are designed to be canvases for mosaics depicting animals, plants and sea life of the area representing our present. The lower riser or leg of the benches will be layered with the tile works.

The “Clasped Hands” is a retaining wall around an oasis of palm trees and native plantings. The front face is the canvas for tile mosaics of natural colored stones. This element of the design is the future, how we work together to build a community.

The final element of the plaza will be a brick pavers floor approx. 410 sq ft. connecting the three sculptures. The center square of the floor will be patterned with the words of our sponsors. Lighting will be added to up light the Postcard and Clasped Hands mosaic.

Hosting Photographers Strauss and Adams at the Next Island City Art Walk

On Friday December 17, 2011, Wilton Manors Main Street is proud to announce our participation in the next Island City Art Walk by hosting the landscape photography of Roy Adams and Scott Strauss.

Roy and Scott are local photographers who we are fortunate enough to call neighbors here in Wilton Manors. Their love of landscapes and scenery is evident in their choice of subjects both of the local scene and such places as the Rocky Mountains, Canadian Rockies and the French Alps.

You will have a chance to visit with the Artists, and with us at Wilton Manors Main Street on Friday from 7PM until 10PM and find out more about their art. For now, you can read more about them in the Press Release, Below.

Roy Adams and Scott Strauss

Roy Adams has enjoyed taking photographs for as long as he can remember. He realized a life-long dream when he graduated from the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale. He has photographed weddings and parties under his own name, Roy Adams Photography. He loves travel photography as well and enjoys seeing other's reaction to his work. He has won several awards in the juried art show held each year by the Allied Artists of Schuylkill County, Pottsville, PA, including honorable mention in the 2008 show.

Scott Strauss fell in love with photography at an early age. He remembers that his first camera was a Kodak Mickey Mouse film camera which required flash cubes. He used to play with nature photography in college and really developed a love for it once he moved to Florida. Scott loves the vast amount of flowers available in south Florida and enjoys taking macro pictures of them to capture the detail close up. In 2006, he entered the Arts United - United & Proud Exhibit and won “Best In Show” for a group of floral photos, each a different color of the rainbow. Scott also enjoys traveling and taking nature photography all around the world. His favorite places to photograph include the Rocky Mountains, Canadian Rockies, and French Alps.

Fort Lauderdale Comedy Club Opening November 11 2011

Who doesn't like a new neighbor, especially those who will make us laugh?

Opening on November 11, 2011, will be the Fort Lauderdale Comedy Club. This will be opening two blocks West of Dixie Highway at 840 East Oakland Park Boulevard, Unit 106 and brings a welcome cheer to the area.

Stand-Up Comedy tickets will go on sale with the first show to begin on November 11th. This is in response to a needed comedy venue in this market. Adding an opportunity for more entertainment here in the area, and tie-ins with major yearly gatherings like the Comic Retreat will help this become a showcase for emerging comics.

Broward County is Launching a New Appliance Rebate Program

Information sessions will be going on this week at four locations for the New Appliance Rebate Program. The Program will allow Broward County Residents and Small Businesses to get a Rebate back from the County when you purchase an eligible Energy Star appliance.

This program requires you to pre-register for the rebate, and the deadline is coming up. All applications must be postmarked by November 4, 2011. As with any of these programs, it is a First Come, First Served basis so get yours soon.

Remember this is for Businesses as well as Residents who purchase qualifying appliances.

The information session nearest to Wilton Manors will be held in Oakland Park Blvd. in Lauderdale Lakes at their library, on Saturday September 24th but there are other locations and times.

The Kiwanis Club of Wilton Manors will host its annual Kids Day at Wilton Manors Elementary School this Saturday from 10:00a.m. to 2:00p.m. This free community event will feature games, music, and arts activities.

Fiscal Year 2012 Annual Budget
The City Commission will meet on Monday, September 26th at 7PM in the Commission Chambers to hold a Public Hearing and vote on the Fiscal Year 2012 millage rate and budget. Wilton Drive Outdoor Dining Regulations

City of Wilton Manors Permitting Walk-Through Tuesdays

Did you know that the City of Wilton Manors has a permitting walk through program on Tuesdays?

If you are doing some work around your property, whether it is a business or the house, you can go to the City of Wilton Manors and get expedited Permitting so that your work can proceed. If you have ever done some work and realized you needed a Permit, you know how difficult this can be. Wilton Manors has decided to help us out and cut through the bureaucratic red tape.

The Community Development Services Department is pleased to announce a “Walk-Through Tuesday” program for residents and contractors wishing to apply for many types of building permits. Subject to the submission of all required, properly completed paperwork, a permit application may be dropped off on a Tuesday morning (between 8am and 10am only) and the approved permit picked up that afternoon.

If you are proceeding with a rather complex project Wilton Manors Main Street can also assist Members with the Walk-Through. We can help guide you to the right contacts to make sure that things happen smoothly. If you feel you need our help you can email us or stop by the offices for a visit. 20th Annual Canoe Race Pictures

On last Sunday, this crew and friends piloted their canoes for a race around Wilton Manors on the New River.

Here, the Oars Power team was joined by Vice Mayor Tom Green and Commissioner Carson at the event.

Every year, the event has folks who compete in a race around the Island, and this year was the 20th.

The (Jolly) Green Giants of Wilton Station were there in force. They were returning this year for another stab at the win.

The racers lined up at the starting line at Colohatchee Park.

Former Wilton Manors Mayor and current seated Fort Lauderdale Mayor Jack Seiler was a competitor at the race on one of the teams.

Congratulations to Burger Battle Winner The Alibi

Wilton Manors Main Street heartily offers its congratulations to the Alibi for its second year running win of the Riverwalk Trust Burger Battle 2011.

Wilton Manors own Alibi won the contest last year with their amazing Black Angus Burgers and had a repeat this year as the Judges' Favorite. This is no small feat since the competition were once again some of the most notable restaurants in the Fort Lauderdale area including some famous names on trendy Las Olas Boulevard and on the 17th Street Causeway.

The Alibi has long been a center for exciting entertainment drawing people from all over the world, and we locals have known that it is an excellent choice for a meal. Now, the rest of the region is paying attention to the high quality of service, food and fun that Jackson Padgett and Mark Negrete have built here at the entertainment hub of Wilton Manors.

It goes to show that Wilton Manors and the Wilton Drive is a destination unlike any other and we're all fortunate to be able to call it home and cherish it as do the visitors.

Business of the Quarter Award presented to Courtyard Cafe

Last night at the City Commission meeting, Wilton Manors Main Street President Krishan Manners was proud to present Shawn Bombard and Nick Berry of Shawn and Nick's Courtyard Cafe with the Business of the Quarter award.

The Courtyard Cafe has generously supported many local charitable efforts with donations of time, food and fun for years while building a restaurant with a strong local following. Over the years, the Courtyard Cafe has expanded from their original indoor location into the courtyard behind the indoor seating to allow locals and snowbirds alike to take in the food in one of the best outdoor locations South Florida has to offer.

Wilton Manors Main Street Hosts Thom Cassotta At the next Island City Art Walk

This Friday, April 15th (have you got your taxes done?), Wilton Manors Main Street will be hosting a third artist.

Thom Cassotta will join us from 7pm until 10pm at our office with his characteristic works of texture. These works are in mixed media and can be creations of art of whatever catches his eye.

In the artist's own words:

Texture Works

These original works began with a combination of acrylic paint and textured papers, most of which I have made myself. Using stipple brush, sponge, tissue paper, rages, crackle paint, burlap, metallic paint, rice paper and miscellaneous findings, I cut and arrange the papers before applying an acrylic gel.

Some work is totally original from start to finish.

Some work has a photographic base with additional paper cuttings applied over it. Because this 2nd step is always different, no two pieces are exactly the same.

Some work has been reproduced into Art Prints.

My inspiration harks back to the 2nd grade of school, where the teacher encouraged me to just have fun with crayons. Next she passed out watercolors and instructed me to apply them over the crayon sketch. The wax-crayons resisted the watercolors and produced vibrant textural results which were amazing. This visual stimulation never left….and put me ion a lifelong search for new color and texture combinations.

A few decades later….

I graduated from Paier College of Art, did a summer semester at the Palazzo Gallenga, Perugia, Italy and did a “Sketching Tour” of Brazil through Pratt Institute.

Now in my late 50’s, I’ve lived my entire adult life supported by the sales of my artwork. And with this newer textural work, it feels like I’ve made some departure back to the 2nd grade…..and loving it.

Last Island City Art Walk Before the Rainy Season

Wilton Manors, (Ft Lauderdale), Florida, April 9, 2011________The Island City Art Walk has captured the attention of the entire surrounding tri-county art community. Start your weekend with great art, great energy and an easy-going atmosphere. The Island City Art Walk begins at 7 pm until 10 pm on Friday, April 15th. This will be the last art walk for this season.
Five years ago (2006), gallery owner and director, Mary Ellen Charapko developed a fresh concept, something that had not been tried before in Broward County, a collaboration of local art and business in the form of an “art walk,” bringing fine art, pop-up galleries, music, and even theatre, into a one-evening function. Island City Art walk was introduced to Wilton Manors and it became an overnight success on the third Friday of the month. The Island City Art Walk was founded before the recession, but, before and during this recession, it has been an invaluable means to drive business into town. Just recently, surrounding towns, including adjacent town, Fort Lauderdale (Las Olas Boulevard), have taken note and are now beginning to start their own art walks, collaborating business and local fine art.

The Island City Art Walk is a stress-free function meant to enrich the general public and encourage the creation of art in Broward County. There will be over 30 business sponsors along the drive sponsoring over 40 artists. The Island City Art Walk is free to the artists and free to the attendees. Many of the businesses along the drive serve refreshments. A free trolley is also provided for the public.

The featured local artist for the April, Island City Art Walk, is Barbara J. Lloyd who will be exhibiting her paintings at Island City Eye Care. Lynn Dolan and Claudia Castillo will present fine art at Wilton Manors Main Street. IberiaBank, White Glove Antiques, Shades of the Past Antiques, The Manor, Gallery XO, To The Moon Marketplace, Pink Submarine and Art Frenzie are some of the businesses collaborating with local artists. Mangum Gallery will be featuring ceramist, Ken Butler. Island City Traders will be featuring the photography of Mitchell Bloch. The contemporary works of Julio Green will be shown at the Naked Grape Wine Bar. Golding-Savino will present a variety of art in collaboration with Galerie Lausberg (Toronto & Germany), curated by Mariavelia Savino and will be located at Gables Wilton Park. Directly next–door, a solo exhibition by Florida nature photographer, Peter J. Nolan, The Florida Series, will be featured in Ellen Charapko Gallery, Alternative Space. Ellen Charapko Gallery will feature a solo, Flawed Perfection by Madrid artist, Alberto Murillo.

Mary Ellen Charapko, Owner/Director of Ellen Charapko Gallery and owner of Island City, Inc., is the producer and organizer of the grassroots, Island City Art Walk, a mile long, “private party function” which began in December 2006. Wilton Manors Main Street hosts Lynn Dolan at the next Island City Art Walk

On April 15th, there's going to be the final official Island City Art Walk. Wilton Manors Main Street is excited to announce that we will be hosting Mixed Media Artist Lynn Dolan. Lynn's art pops off the page with many textures and colors to please the eye.

Lynn is also a supporter of Wilton Manors Main Street which is a plus for us. In Lynn's words, "I fully support the Wilton Manor Main Street Program...think it's wonderful and I hope it comes to fruition under your watchful eye. I'm very excited to be able to exhibit my work at your office on April 15th and I've been busy creating large pieces to fill up some of the great wall spaces you have."

Lynn says, describing her art: "I've had many opportunities through the years to exhibit my art. Started my obsession with creating in high school and more often than not you could find me in the Art Room covered in clay or paint. College lead me through the fundamentals of Art History and I've never stopped. During my career I've had the experience of being in juried Art Shows and have won awards for Most Original and Most Creative in the Mixed Media field. Having moved down to Florida last year has motivated me to seek out oppotunities and locations to display my Art. I came upon the Island City Art Walk through Mary Ellen from the Ellen Charapko Gallery and here I am ready and able to creat unique and original pieces."

The Next Island City Art Walk happens Friday April 15, 2011

After having a successful Island City Art Walk last Friday, the next official Art Walk has been announced.

Starting at 7PM and going to 10PM and beyond, the Island City Art Walk is scheduled to happen on Wilton Drive. A mile of Art Exhibits stretching from Five Points down to the South End of Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors will welcome this exciting opportunity, and welcomes people from near and far for this one of a kind entertainment venue.

Make sure that you are here in town and mark your calendars for this wonderful event.

Island City Art Walk is a monthly collection of private exhibits that happens here in our own Wilton Manors, bringing some more beauty to a one of a kind venue. Expanded Parking will be available on Wilton Drive and Hagen Park. When there, stroll among your friends and neighbors and when you've decided you need a rest, feel free to ride on the complementary trolley to start all over again.

Starting tonight at 7PM and continuing to 10PM and beyond, the Island City Art Walk will be happening on Wilton Drive.

As always there are many changes to which artist is being hosted where. If you are looking for a specific artist or just want more information for who is going where, you may read the Press Release from Island City Art Walk Inc here.

Just down the block from Wilton Manors Main Street Offices, the Island City Art Walk will have Alternate Exhibition Space with two different galleries in cooperation with The Gables Wilton Park.

The Island City Art Walk Press Release states that:

Golding-Savino, Alternative Space, in Gables Wilton Park, will present a group show, Other Worlds, which includes Miami artist, Alette Simmons-Jimenez, along with Ilka A and Kuhl & Leyton. Next door, Ellen Charapko Gallery, Alternative Space, will be featuring a solo show by Miami artist, Cesar Garcia and Drastic Measures, for found objects, award-winning artist, Tim Yankosky has been extended through April 9th at the Ellen Charapko Gallery.

The Alternate Exhibition Space was a resounding success with the beauty of the art being highlighted by the partially unfinished walls in these premiere commercial spaces. These are the spaces that we have all seen covered by colorful graphics on the window. We've all peeked through the cracks, this is your chance to see what the space is all about and consider the opportunities that the location has to offer, right in the heart of your own Wilton Drive.

This Island City Art Walk, Wilton Manors Main Street will have two artists for you to view. First, returning to us on the outside will be Claudia Castillo. Claudia has been with us for the last few Island City Art Walks and enjoys the vibe and the opportunity to show her art to the people here. We're happy to have her return to us. Wilton Manors Main Street Welcomes Back Claudia Castillo on Friday

We are fortunate to have a second artist to show her works at the Island City Art Walk this Friday, March 18th at our offices at The Gables Wilton Park, 2164 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors. This will be our fourth time that Claudia Castillo will be with us, and we're looking forward to having her back.

Claudia Castillo, noted artist will be showing her works from 7PM until 10PM in our offices. Claudia draws her exciting inspiration from the traditions of the sea and shore. You can see this influence in this impressionistic view of the beach that we are all drawn to here in South Florida.

Claudia is a local artist and business woman who's firm, Color Designers is here to work with you to help beautify your life. We are excited to have this chance to share with you her amazing work.

The featured local artist for the March Island City Art Walk is Peter J. Nolan who will be exhibiting his highly sophisticated nature photography at the The Naked Grape Wine Bar. Connecticut artist, Barbara J. Lloyd will be at Island City Eyecare. Gallery XO will be presenting the works of Aaron Coleman, Maciel Cantelmo, Chris Lopez and Eduardo Garcia. The newest gallery in Wilton Manors, Mangum Gallery, will be featuring the latest work of owner/director, Greg Mangum. Dennis Dean Galleries will be presenting the works of recyclable artist, Michael Russo. Art Frenzie will be showing abstract artist, Jason Trublood, watercolors by Lori Tanner and the unique art of David Schluss who is renowned for painting with his hands and fingers.

John Brown, an art representative from Nashville, Tennessee and one of his mixed media artists, Stevn Dutton, will be traveling to Wilton Manors to participate in the March exhibit, bringing with them the work of 6 Nashville artists. Brown and his artists will be located along the corridor at Chic Optique in the Shoppes of Wilton Manors.

Market Bazaar at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors Today

If you are looking for something interesting to do today, one suggestion is to head over to the Drive. There's always something going on there, but today you can rub shoulders with your neighbors while looking for treasures and knick knacks. Usually there are some food vendors and you can get some fresh produce - their bell peppers are usually amazing. Every month it seems to grow a little larger and since the weather is cool and is pleasant today, the crowd will be bigger still.

Today from 9am until 2pm at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors, there will be the monthly Market Bazaar flea market. This is headed by Wilton Manors Main Street business of the quarter recipient Nikki and Steve Rose from their iconic coffee shop Java Boys. If you make it there, stop in and say hi to Nikki and Steve, they'll treat you like family and let them know we sent you. Their Facebook page has some pictures from the shop, so if you can't manage to get in for some Joe and a bit of a snack, you can see the place here.

This is a monthly scheduled event that has all sorts of new and used items, and has rapidly become one of the things that locals look forward to. It is a great way to meet your neighbors, get some coffee or visit some of the other shops at the center, and be a part of your community.

Starting at 7pm Friday February 18th and continuing until at least 10pm, the Island City Art Walk on Wilton Drive will have some exciting new changes for this month.

Wilton Manors Main Street is proud to announce the collaboration of Ellen Charapko Gallery with Gables Wilton Park to add new exhibition space at Friday Night's Island City Art Walk.

This Island City Art Walk, Wilton Manors Main Street will have two artists for you to view. First, returning to us on the outside will be Claudia Castillo. Claudia has been with us for the last few Island City Art Walks and enjoys the vibe and the opportunity to show her art to the people here. We're happy to have her return to us. Exhibiting indoors at Wilton Manors Main Street will be Barbara Jeneava Lloyd. Barbara's works are in Acrylics and Mixed Media and have been exhibited in New York City and South Beach. Finally, Ellen Charapko Gallery has arranged with the Gables Wilton Park for Alternative Space. Ellen Charapko Gallery, Alternative Space, will present selections from the body of work of: Cesar Garcia, Silvio Gayton and Joaquín González. This is a special, one night only presentation which will coincide with the Island City Art Walk on Friday, February 18, 2011, 7 - 10 pm. Location: 2184 Wilton Drive in the new "Gables" complex.

Three blocks north from the Alternative Space in the Gables complex, the Ellen Charapko Gallery (main gallery), will be presenting a solo show for San Francisco artist, Tim Yankosky. "Drastic Measures" will run through April 6th, 2011.

Wilton Manors is fast becoming the newest art hub in South Florida. Artists, gallerists, curators and collectors are beginning to take notice of the friendly, small town atmosphere which has much to offer in space available in newly built, high end buildings along Wilton Drive. Barbara’s work with Acrylics, Mixed Media, Collage, etc., has been exhibited in the Ceres Gallery, NYC; Artists Haven Gallery, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; City Hall Gallery, CT; Artoconecto/Art Basel, Miami; Museum of Computer Art, Brooklyn, NY; Los Angeles Center for Digital Art; Art Kudos Juried Competition; GAB Studio Gallery, Miami, FL and more.

Awards include the Art Buzz Graphics and Acrylics Competitions, four “Special Recognition" Awards from Upstream People Gallery Juried Exhibitions, and a Body-of-Work Award from Mosaic Globe. Yard Sale and Women's Club Sale Saturday February 12

A Quick reminder... tomorrow is the yard sale but there is more! Over at the Women's Club of Wilton Manors, there will be a sale. Antiques, furnishings and other collectibles.

Starts at 8am and goes on until 2pm. 2020 Wilton Drive, Wilton Manors. The Women's club is on NE 21st Court next to the Volleyball and Tennis courts at Hagen Park.

Everything that is sold will benefit the Wilton Manors Historical Society. There will be many antique items to help you set up your next event.

The Next Yard Sale is this Saturday at Wilton Manors Hagen Park

There's another Yard Sale at Wilton Manors City Hall and Hagen Park this weekend.

You will have a chance to meet your neighbors, go through their things and perhaps bring home a treasure of your own.

The Friends of the Wilton Manors Library will host its Book Tent display at the Yard Sale. You can find yourself some winter reading for the cool nights or sunny days by the pool. Your purchases at the Friends of the Library Tent will help improve your own City Library. Your money spent in Wilton Manors will stay to help Wilton Manors.

This is the monthly event that is hosted by the City and is going to be run this Saturday, February 12th, 2011 from 8AM to 2PM.

Wilton Manors Main Street Announces New Board Officers

(Wilton Manors, FL.) Wilton Manors Main Street held its Annual Meeting on January 27, 2011 and elected new members to its Board of Directors. Six members were not up for re-election, as they are completing their two-year term. Standing directors are: Tom Tabor, Kevin Knorr, William Woeppel, Chuck Poole, Brett Nein and permanent member, the City Manager of Wilton Manors, Joseph Gallegos. Re-elected to the Board are Diane Cline and Fred Reissner. New additions are Mary Nolan, Anthony LoGrande and Krishan Manners.

In accordance with their bylaws, the board was elected by the membership, after which the new board elects the officers, within 10 days of the Annual Meeting. The board convened on January 31st to elect new executive officers. The new executive board is:

President/CEO – Krishan Manners
Vice President – Tom Tabor
Treasurer – Chuck Poole
Secretary – Fred Reissner

Outgoing President, Doug Blevins, was honored at the annual meeting for his accomplishments during his time at Wilton Manors Main Street, which benefitted both Main Street and the City of Wilton Manors.

Wilton Manors Main Street will be holding its Annual Meeting on January 26, 2011, at 6:30pm in the Wilton Manors City Commission Chambers at City Hall. This will be a meeting where our members will be discussing our goals and our strategies for the next year, and electing our new board of directors. While everyone is welcome to attend, to vote for the board or be considered for it, you must be a current member. The presentation to Mary Ellen Charapko will be done at the Wilton Manors Main Street Meeting to be held Wednesday evening that begins at 6:30 PM.

Mary Ellen Charapko's efforts have provided Wilton Manors with a cohesive business entity and entertainment event. From 7PM to 10PM (or later) hit Wilton Drive to experience all Wilton Manors has to offer.

It is a great time to show off your City, whether you live here or you come here to visit. Bring your friends into Wilton Manors tonight to share the Island City Art Walk. It's a half mile (or more) of shops, bars, restaurants and entertainment.

Wilton Drive will be rolling out the red carpet tonight with art exhibits up and down the drive. There will be free light refreshments at some of the shops, so do come and enjoy our art, our hospitality and everything that Wilton Manors has on store for you.

If you are a local, you can bring that snowbird to the Drive and show them why Wilton Manors is a one of a kind venue. If you're a snowbird, you have a treat in store - the Island City Art Walk is rapidly becoming a reason in itself for people to come to Wilton Manors from out of town.

No matter who you are, we're going to be there for you. There will be a complementary Trolley Shuttle in effect that will take you from one end of the Drive to the other that is well worth experiencing.

Joaquín González, Recent Works in Ink

Wilton Manors (Ft. Lauderdale), FL, January 10, 2011_____________ Ellen Charapko Gallery will present a solo exhibition: Joaquín González, Recent Works in Ink. The gallery will host an opening reception on Friday, January 21, 2011, 7 – 10 pm. The artist will be present. The exhibition will run through February 12, 2011.

The latest works of Joaquín González have been inspired by a little known South American Indian tribe, who live in one of the most primitive locations on the planet, the Amazon. Gonzalez introduces the Shipibo-Conibo Indians to the rest of the world through his art. This latest series by González is a peek into the lives of the native, Amazonic Indians of Perú, who speak in the Ashaninka language. Their realm of existence is dramatically unlike our fast-paced modern society. Gonzalez, through this new series of work, casts light onto their everyday routines, ancestral rituals and ceremonies. He uses a multitude of iconic images, almost a “story-board,” visual documentary of “a day in the life.”

Gonzalez states that his experience in the Amazon, not only with the people but the river and jungle, “has been both beautiful and fearful, but, mostly a freeing experience in relationship to my artistic expression.” Through his interaction with the Shipibo-Conibo, González developed a close friendship and mutual trust with them. All of this led him to a better understanding of man and his roots, which he has incorporated into his latest body of work.

Joaquín González was born in 1957, in Cuba. In 1982 he moved to Spain and eventually relocated to the USA in 1999. He lives and works in Miami, Florida. Besides painting, González is also a master printer. His work has been featured in various prestigious exhibitions around the world, including Cuba, Spain, Latin America, and the United States.

Evening hours are Wednesday through Saturday and by appointment. The gallery is located at 2374 Wilton Drive, in Wilton Manors Art & Entertainment District. Claudia Castillo, noted artist will be showing her works from 7PM until 10PM in our offices. Claudia draws her exciting inspiration from the traditions of the sea and shore. You can see this influence in this impressionistic view of the beach that we are all drawn to here in South Florida.

You will have a chance to meet your neighbors, go through their things and perhaps bring home a treasure of your own.

The Friends of the Wilton Manors Library will host its Book Tent display at the Yard Sale. You can find yourself some winter reading for the cool nights or sunny days by the pool. Your purchases at the Friends of the Library Tent will help improve your own City Library. Your money spent in Wilton Manors will stay to help Wilton Manors.

This is the monthly event that is hosted by the City and is going to be run this Saturday, January 8th, 2011 from 8AM to 2PM.

Island City Art Walk and Santa's Enchanted Evening this Friday

This Friday you have two events to go to both starting at 7PM.

If you are looking for some sophisticated entertainment, starting at 7PM and going on until 10PM, the monthly Island City Art Walk welcomes you. On Wilton Drive, you will get a chance to walk into all your favorite shops and browse the galleries for just the right piece to complete your collection. In many of the galleries and shops complementary light refreshments will be served.

Wilton Manors Main Street offices will be open and you can stop in and say hello to us too.

Also, starting at 7pm at Wilton Manors Elementary School, there is Santa's Enchanted Evening. Bring your Kids to meet Santa to the Elementary School for this Family Friendly Event. The kids will get to see Santa and their friends until 9PM.

The Market Bazaar for the Holidays is today

From 8am until 2pm at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors, today we have the Market Bazaar at Wilton Drive and NE 6th Ave in Wilton Manors.

You will have a chance to walk the parking lot with your friends and neighbors, and perhaps find just the right gift for someone for the holidays. The Market Bazaar is a yard sale as well as the opportunity to get some new items.

While at the Market Bazaar you can stop into Java Boys for coffee and dessert, Humpys for pizza, or a walk through The Alibi. You'll be right in the heart of Wilton Manors' central business district so have a walk through and visit some of the nearby businesses. The To the Moon Marketplace is sure to have just that special item to fill your sweet tooth and if you don't find that gift at the bazaar, I'm sure you'll be able to find a one of a kind present there!

Pie Eating at the Market Bazaar Pictures

In case you missed it, the Market Bazaar was there yesterday. There will be another one in a month, but I did manage to get some pictures.

Steve and Nikki Rose, the owners of Java Boys are the hosts of the Market Bazaar. You can join them at Java Boys and let them know how much you enjoyed the Market Bazaar.

The Market Bazaar has plenty of booths full of things for you to look at. There was a wide selection of odds and ends and treasures from afar.

One of the treasures that you can find is a forever friend. The group Abandoned Pet Rescue was here with some adoptable friends for life. 954-728-9010 is Abandoned Pet Rescue's number and they're waiting for you to meet the next love of your life.

In case you missed it, there was a Pie Eating Contest! Fun for all, participants and those of us who watched them have their pies.

When the contest wound down, they allowed the contestants to stop using a spoon and bury themselves in the pumpkin pies.

The Winner was Cole, who is in the Blue Shirt. Cole works at the Alibi as one of the staff. They stopped the contest at that point because of rain, but Cole was clearly ahead.

Finally, thanking everyone involved with Wicked Weekend 2010 would not be complete without thanking some of the people at the City of Wilton Manors. Without everyone's help, we could not have made this a success.

To the WMPD, Fire Department and EMT’s and the employees of the City of Wilton Manors – we cannot begin to thank you enough. We know that our plans changed frequently and drastically throughout this process and you all worked with us. There are far too many to name individually, but each of you deserve applause for the herculean efforts made to get everything permitted, organized, compliant with code and then to keep us all safe this weekend. Words cannot begin to express our appreciation.

You're an amazing person to have the privilege to work with on Main Street. I share your awe about the many volunteers here in Wilton Manors. Without the volunteers in this little city – absolutely nothing will happen!

The un-sung hero’s of all of this – our volunteers – who gave up their personal time, money – and didn’t flinch when I asked for even more of their efforts – I thank each of you.

Doug Blevins for your endless creativity and energy, contagious enthusiasm and knowledge of the logistics to make this all happen. Your insistence that this event happen is the only reason it did, and I’m very well aware that you thank everyone and are often left out of the mix, so from me, thank you.

The locals wait for this all year and we get some folks that plan their vacations around this. You can get tickets at the door for $35 or advance tickets may still be available at select locations around town. Tonight at Richardson Historic Park from 6pm to 9pm. The particulars of "The Taste" as the folks here call it is that we get a long list of local restaurants together and give them a challenge to bring their best, bring your A Game and make up some food for everyone to sample! You can rub shoulders with the locals and the wannabe locals, the City Officials and Volunteers and listen to them tell stories about each other. It really is a great small town atmosphere... with FOOD! Last year we had roving bands and live entertainment and this year will be no different.

Every year this is held around this time and you're lucky enough to be able to have it on Monday October 25th, 2010. We are holding it at Richardson Historical Park on Wilton Drive with nearby Hagen Park available for your parking needs!

Children's Art Project from the Artist

Kevin Kichar is the artist responsible for the initial concept of what he calls “THREE ISLAND PLAZA”, we know it as Jaycee Park. This is the little triangle park of land across the street from City Hall. This is his description of the phases of the project in his own words. The picture is the Artists Rendering of the final park.

Wilton Manors Main Street Public Art Project

The concept for the Main Street Children’s art project is to create a mini plaza within the southern tip of Jaycee Park. Three Island Plaza was envisioned to display the past present and future of Wilton manors in three mosaic tiles sculptures.

The design for the Postcard sculpture is to replicate the original 1925 poster used to sell land in Wilton Manors in a large scale format on a cement block wall, seven feet long by five and a half feet high. The cement block will be covered with the tile mosaic.

The Benches are designed to be canvases for mosaics depicting animals, plants and sea life of the area representing our present. The lower riser or leg of the benches will be layered with the tile works.

The “Clasped Hands” is a retaining wall around an oasis of palm trees and native plantings. The front face is the canvas for tile mosaics of natural colored stones. This element of the design is the future, how we work together to build a community.

The final element of the plaza will be a brick pavers floor approx. 410 sq ft. connecting the three sculptures. The center square of the floor will be patterned with the words of our sponsors. Lighting will be added to up light the Postcard and Clasped Hands mosaic.

What is the big postcard sitting in the middle of Wilton Drive?

When visiting our city, right in the middle of Wilton Drive, you may want to see a Post Card that you can't send home to the family. This would be the Children's Art Project at the Jaycee Park across from Hagen Park in Wilton Manors.

The first phase of the park, the Post Card, has been completed and this depicts the towers that used to grace the Five Points intersection at the North End of Wilton Drive. The Towers were an entry point to the city and signified that you were entering someplace special. The Post Card was a copy of one that was used by the Wilton Manors Historical Society for their publications for a while now, and the partnership between Wilton Manors Main Street and the Historical Society, is a natural one for the improvement of the little park.

Wilton Manors Main Street is in the planning phase for many events to be held in the city over the next year. These events will happen in various locations, including Hagen and Richardson Parks, on or near Wilton Drive, and we could use your expertise! Everyone has something they’re good at, and we need all sorts of skills, talent and labor to continue to bring successful events to Wilton Manors. If you would like a voice in these future events, we welcome your input.

We are a member-based volunteer organization, so donations of time, expertise - and yes, monetary donations, too – are of great help to us. This will give you a chance to help us make the parties thrive and you will be able to see the “behind the scenes goings on” here on the Drive in the middle of a major event. We need volunteers to do things like assembling tents, taking tickets, planning, fundraising and so forth. We are also looking for folks who would be interested in becoming members, whether just to help out or to have an active voice in the planning of all that we’re trying to accomplish to make Wilton Drive the arts and entertainment destination for the Greater Ft. Lauderdale area.

(Wilton Manors, FL) - Wilton Manors Main Street, Inc., in conjunction with an Events Council consisting of representatives from all nine of the bars along Wilton Drive, is delighted to announce an expanded series of Halloween events this year. Beginning Thursday, October 28th through Sunday, October 31st, the bars along Wilton Drive will be hosting various events each day under the unified nautical theme of “FantaSea Island.”

“We’re anticipating this year to be larger and better than ever,” said Doug Blevins, President of Wilton Manors Main Street, Inc. “However, we also want to make the public aware of some changes, in particular that Wilton Drive will be open to traffic this year. We are working closely with the city and the bars on the drive to make certain that the events are both safe and successful.”

Anticipating the largest crowd on Saturday night, additional parking with on-site security will be provided at Fort Lauderdale High School, Equality Park, the city parking lot on Dixie Highway, the parking lot by City Hall and behind the Sun Trust Bank, with complimentary shuttle service to and from the drive.

More convenience facilities and security to assist the City of Wilton Manors will be provided, co-sponsored by Wilton Manors Main Street, Inc. and all participating bar members, Rosie’s Bar & Grill, New Moon, Matty’s on the Drive, The Manor, Bill’s, Alibi, Boom, Sidelines Sports Bar and Tropics.

While we at Wilton Manors Main Street try to stick to businesses on Wilton Drive to perform our work, the lucky coincidence is that Copy This excellent, and directly across the street.

Bruce Bogen, the owner of Copy This has been extremely flexible in assisting us in all of our printing needs. He is the owner of the company, and also a prior Business Of The Quarter award winner. This was with good reason. Bruce and his staff of helpful workers will perform full color and black and white copying needs for you as well as more traditional printing on many different formats, and work with you to achieve the same standards of excellence that we have grown to expect over the time that we have been there.

Our flyers and the banners that we use are both made by Copy This. We have used them to produce large format vinyl banners, standard flyers on copier paper for our membership applications, and have produced business cards for Wilton Manors Main Street. Wilton Drive Pedestrian Tragedy, Victims Family Speaks Out

One of the reasons why Wilton Manors Main Street is here is to help those who live, work and play here have a safer city.

There was an accident that happened that killed Louie Sarris a while back, and we all paused to think what can be done to make this sort of thing much less likely in the future. We all agreed that Wilton Drive should be slowed down from the then 35MPH to the current 30MPH speed limit. Whether that saved lives, we can only hope.

We further believe that the Two Lane Initiative will slow traffic further to make Wilton Manors a place to Drive To, not Drive Through. When completed, this will have the effect of making the Drive a safer place for those of us who get out of our cars and walk to enjoy our city.

I invite you to pause and think about Louie Sarris who died in that event. May he be the last. Here is a video featuring his family remembering him.

On Thursday, September 16th, Wilton Manors Main Street, Inc. held the official grand opening of our new office at 2164 Wilton Drive in the Gables Wilton Park Development.

More than 200 guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening complete with entertainment, fine food, wine and the cool air conditioning of our refreshing new office. The new Main Street office is the latest addition to the Gables Wilton Park commercial and retail space. The office is being graciously sponsored by our premiere corporate sponsor, the Gables Corporation. The stunning interior design, furnishings, artwork and accessories are compliments of premiere sponsor, Island City Traders of Wilton Drive and their parent company Retro Interiors. Crema D' Roma provided scrumptious appetizers and the Naked Grape offered complimentary fine wines. Panache Style, formerly Petals Panache owner Bobby Kyser provided gorgeous flower arrangements with exceptional artistic flair. A huge thank you to all of our sponsors.

Main Street's new office is just another example of the community support and enthusiasm that is being generated by the hard work of the Main Street Board and volunteers. As a non-profit organization, Wilton Manors Main Street is a member of the national Main Street organization. Like so many other cities, Main Street is the vital town center and the hub of arts, entertainment, dining and culture. Wilton Drive is experiencing a renaissance and Main Street is working to make sure the town center continues to improve. Main Street has introduced a Two Lane Safety, Parking and Beautification initiative and the city is moving forward with a task force to study and find ways to implement the proposed initiative.

The grand opening of our new office also kicks off our 2011 MEMBERSHIP DRIVE. Our Main Street organization is a member based organization and as such, relies on donations, fundraisers, grants and membership dues to maintain operations and programs so that we can give back to the community. WMMS needs you! Before and After Pictures of our New Office

Recently I have received some pictures of our new offices. Before and after we fitted the place out.

This particular picture is just as you stepped in the front door, before anything was done. We were fortunate to get this prime space from the Gables Residential and we had our work cut out for us!

Here is the same view, but after we had finished with it. The furnishings are by Island City Traders. The painting crew was led by Doug Mc Clave. Doug had done some excellent and professional work. The space now has a smooth coat of paint over the Cement ceilings and the exposed pipes are covered neatly with a pleasant cream color.

This was truly a community effort for an office to serve the community.

Market Bazaar at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors today

If you are looking for something interesting to do today, one suggestion is to head over to the Drive. There's always something going on there, but today you can rub shoulders with your neighbors while looking for treasures and knick knacks. Usually there are some food vendors and you can get some fresh produce - their bell peppers are usually amazing. Every month it seems to grow a little larger and since the weather is cooling and is pleasant today, the crowd will be bigger still.

Today from 9am until 2pm at the Shoppes of Wilton Manors, there will be the monthly Market Bazaar flea market. This is headed by Wilton Manors Main Street business of the quarter recipient Nikki and Steve Rose from their iconic coffee shop Java Boys. If you make it there, stop in and say hi to Nikki and Steve, they'll treat you like family and let them know we sent you. Their Facebook page has some pictures from the shop, so if you can't manage to get in for some Joe and a bit of a snack, you can see the place here.

This is a monthly scheduled event that has all sorts of new and used items, and has rapidly become one of the things that locals look forward to. It is a great way to meet your neighbors, get some coffee or visit some of the other shops at the center, and be a part of your community.

Wilton Manors Main Street Ribbon Cutting Pictures Indoors

We are fortunate to have a lot of supporters at Wilton Manors Main Street. There are people from all walks of life, and in this picture you can see some of them.

Visible are Mr and Mrs Joseph Gallegos. Joseph or "Mr G" as he is known to everyone in the City of Wilton Manors government, is the City Manager of Wilton Manors.

We can also see M.E. DePalma of DePalma Enterprises, toward the back of the frame. She's standing there in a pink dress having a discussion.

Both people I count myself fortunate as knowing and having been able to work with on various levels both within Wilton Manors Main Street and outside. The City is much richer having them here.

Main Street's Ribbon Cutting Event and Pictures

Last night, Wilton Manors Main Street had a Ribbon Cutting Event for the new offices at 2164 Wilton Drive. We were able to welcome our friends and neighbors and thank our benefactors who all made this possible.

The food was wonderful, and supplied by the new restaurant, Crema d'Roma at 2150 Wilton Drive, at the corner of Wilton Drive and NE 21st Ct.

It was a chance to show off our furnishings from Island City Traders, at 2450 Wilton Drive.

It was a chance to see everyone there in a relaxed setting who are committed to making the City a better place for All of us to live in.

Business of the Quarter Presented to The Alibi

Last night at the City Commission meeting, Sept. 14, 2010, Wilton Manors Main Street President Doug Blevins had the distinct pleasure of presenting the owners of The Alibi, Jackson Padgett and Mark Negrete the Business of the Quarter Award.

On receiving the award, Jackson Padgett spoke on how he felt about owning such a local icon. Mr Padgett said that he will be continuing the tradition of Public Service by being involved in the same activities and public spirited programs that have always been synonymous with the name Alibi in the future.

Tonight we invite you to join us at the Commission Meeting where we will present a plaque honoring Jackson Padgett and Mark Negrete as the Wilton Manors Main Street Business of the Quarter. Jackson and Mark are the new owners of the Alibi on Wilton Drive and Bill's Filling Station, just across the street.

Recently, the restaurant at Alibi won top honors as the Best Burger in Broward as chosen by the Sun-Sentinel Newspaper in Fort Lauderdale. If you have ever gone to the restaurant you experienced first hand the quality of the food there, and now Alibi is drawing people from outside of their traditional markets to experience their food and the excitement that Wilton Manors and the Drive have to offer. Wilton Drive Tiger II Grant Initiative Status

At the meeting last week, we learned that the Tiger II grant initiative has been submitted to the Federal Government.

While this doesn't mean that we have gotten the grant, it does mean that we will get a chance to proceed to the next level. The Two Lane initiative is a great plan with something for all, and with your support we will be able to have the kind of Wilton Drive that we all want. The grant will allow us to complete the Two Lane Initiative faster and include more features that we all can use.

Wilton Manors Main Street is working toward turning the current raceway down the middle of town in the Wilton Drive to a pedestrian friendly oasis that has adequate parking for the businesses that will thrive there. It won't happen overnight, but we feel that we've got a strong plan that will produce the kind of place we all can be proud of.

South Florida East Coast Corridor Study on 9-22

Coming soon, on September 22nd at 330-530pm or from 6-8pm, there will be a meeting at Fort Lauderdale's Holiday Park. The meeting will discuss the second phase of the Proposed Florida East Coast Mass Transit line.

We at Wilton Manors Main Street hope to see you there. This will be discussing the proposal to get a rapid transit line where the people live - on the FEC tracks near Dixie Highway. The proposal will pass through Wilton Manors and we hope to have an station near Five Points at the East end of our Central Business District, anchoring Wilton Drive. If completed, you will have light rail access to Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, and Downtown Miami all from your back yard.

PENDING DEAL BETWEEN WILTON MANORS AND GABLES COULD BE A WINNING TRIPLE PLAY

In a special meeting last Wednesday night, Wilton Manors City Commission unanimously approved a motion to move forward with a preliminary $10 Million Dollar Federal Grant Application known as TIGER II. The Grant, which is part of a Federal Stimulus Grant program, will award a total of $600 Million dollars The minimum grant award will be $10 Million dollars per applicant and higher awards can be requested under the terms of the application. Wilton Manors hopes to be one of those chosen few.

This grant could be the source of funding needed for the Wilton Drive Safety, Parking and Beautification project presented by Wilton Manors Main Street, in addition to other projects that will help create a more sustainable Wilton Manors.

The Tiger II Grant requires a dedicated match of $2.5 Million dollars in order to qualify for the Grant and with economic budget restraints; the City of Wilton Manors needs a pinch hitter. That may be possible with the help of private developer Gables Residential Real Estate, who has already provided the city with a successful residential complex that is so popular, it now boasts a three-month waiting list of potential tenants.

Tom Tabor and Doug Blevins as private sector development consultants and Main Street Volunteers were approached by Gables Residential to explore the possibility of a public-private partnership to provide for a parking garage, residential and retail development on the old city hall site. Gables had previously submitted a plan for a similar project on the site about two years ago, but the plan was rejected by the Commission and deemed incompatible with the needs of the community.

Simultaneously, the Tiger II Grant was announced and was identified as a possible funding source for the improvements on Wilton Drive. The plan will include a comprehensive master plan to address the needs of transit, economic, safety, housing and environmental components for Wilton Drive and the surrounding Arts and Entertainment Corridor.

With the requirement of the $2.5 million match for the Tiger II Grant, Tom Tabor was able to structure a preliminary proposal for the city and Gables that would insure a pledge for the $2.5 Million needed to move forward with the preliminary Grant submission.

A collaboration of Gables, Pasquale and Kuritzky Architects, Five Points Development Services including Architect James Hollingsworth, helped develop a community-friendly design alternative to the previously submitted plan. With special consideration of the Main Street Design Guidelines and references to the historical context of the city, the combined team developed a new proposal that was presented at the meeting. The response to the new design plan was overwhelmingly positive from the commission and the public attendees.

The Tiger II Grant would also allow options for at least one or two more parking structures and would address the future needs of a possible passenger railway station in Wilton Manors and enhancements along the Dixie Highway corridor.

The revised Gables design includes a new Island City Plaza which would replace the old city hall site at the corner of Wilton Drive and NE 21^stCourt. The new design includes a public gathering and event area, parking garage and the addition of 120 new residential units adjacent to the new city hall. In addition, Gables pledged the matching funds of $2.5 Million dollars for the Tiger II Grant, if the project is approved. The city attorney will be drafting a letter of intent from the city to Gables regarding the agreement.

Once an agreement is reached between the city and Gables, the real work begins. The grant process will require a capital expenditure outlay of an estimated $75,000 and those funds must be secured in the next ten days in order to hire and contract the required experts needed complete the Grant. Wilton Manors Main Street will be working diligently to raise the funds needed to make this grant a reality. We will need the support of major donors to help facilitate the TIGER II. The final grant deadline is August 23, 2010. This is truly a “call to action” and we need your support. Wilton Manors Main Street, Inc., WMMS, announces the “groundbreaking” of its new offices on the Drive during Sunday’s Stonewall Festivities in the new Gables Wilton Park Building at 2164 Wilton Drive.

On Sunday, June 20, 2010, WMMS President Doug Blevins, Vice President Diane Cline, and Board Members hosted an informal reception and tour of the new space which included a display of the proposed improvements planned for the Drive which include added parking spaces, wider sidewalks, and more landscaping. The Grand Opening of the new offices and showroom are scheduled for later this summer.

NEW PARTNERSHIPS OFFER NEW LIFE FOR WICKED MANORS

With Wicked Manors just over two weeks away there is GREAT NEWS. With the fears of having to cancel this year's WICKED MANORS due to financial concerns, PGFL Board Member and President of Wilton Manors Main Street, Inc., Doug Blevins asked WMMS board members to consider a partnership with PGFL and an immediate infusion of $5,000 to keep WICKED MANORS alive. The Board of WMMS, unanimously agreed that Wicked Manors is too important to the success of the city and with local businesses already struggling, it was time to step up to the plate. WMMS and the board of PGFL have agreed to a partnership as co-sponsors of the event and proceeds will be split between the two non-profit organizations.

In addition, PGFL Chairman Bob Kecskemety and Doug Blevins made an impassioned plea to the City Commission at last night’s city commission asking that the City of Wilton Manors also recognize the need to keep Wicked Manors alive. PGLF requested financial assistance from the city in an e-mail late last week. City Commissioner, Justin Flippen brought up the request under new business at last night’s meeting and after a brief discussion the city approved $3,000 with the promise of a match from WMMS.

The following local businesses have also committed as sponsors for Wicked Manors 2009: The Alibi and Bills, Gables Wilton Park, The new Manor Club and Restaurant, Bottoms and Tops Clothing, Dean Trantalis-Attorney, Chic Optique, Copy This, Hot Spots/Latino Boys Magazine, and the South Florida Blade. Beverage Sponsors include Bacardi, Red Bull and Budweiser. Sponsorship packages are still available and welcomed.

Dispelling any rumours of relocating, Wicked Manors is once again being held on Wilton Drive from NE 21^st Court to Five Points. In addition, at this year's event, there will be designated entry points for attendees and the WMMS and PGFL volunteers will be there to check ID’s and also accept any donations to help defray the cost of Wicked Manors. A $2.00 suggested minimum donation will be requested.

More good news, the board of PGLF has also agreed to offer free vendor space to any non-profit organizations who wish to participate. Reservations will be taken on a first-come basis. Also, other vendors wishing to sell goods or services may rent a (15’X15’) for $175.00

New this year and sponsored by Gables Wilton Park, will be a live band at the south entry as well as the Wicked Manors' Main Stage with our housedeejay, DaddyO and various costume contest emceed by our hosts Misty Eyez and D.J. Shane Phoenix. Shane will also be broadcasting the event live on Q Nation Sirius Satellite Radio.

With PGLF and WMMS forming a new partnership and with support from the City of Wilton Manors, there is renewed sense of community spirit. Wicked Manors 2009 is destined to be better than ever.
